I haven’t watched award shows in probably 30 years, but when it was announced that BTS would perform on the Grammy’s I watched.
And I realized why I don’t watch mainstream award shows.
I turned the TV off during certain performances because I couldn’t stomach them. The only reason I stuck it out was because BTS was next. They kept us waiting.
Sadly, BTS didn’t win in their one category. They should have been nominated in multiple categories.
Recently an award show popped up on my YouTube feed. This is one award show I’m not ashamed to say I watched all the way through.
Some great performances.
None that made me want to shield my eyes.
I’m praying one day BTS will be a part of this award show. Many people are praying for BTS.
Matthew 19:23-26 Christian Standard Bible
Possessions and the Kingdom
23 Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it will be hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.”
25 When the disciples heard this, they were utterly astonished and asked, “Then who can be saved?”
26 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
19:23-26 Korean Living Bible
The BTS Grammy performance:
They were fully clothed and gave a classy performance compared to the others that night.

In BTS’s new Music Video, J-Hope eats a pat of butter.
I cringe a little to think about eating butter all by itself.
Don’t get me wrong, I love a buttered butter-milk biscuit(my Mother-In-Law makes the best) with a slice of tomato. Yum Yum.
I have mentioned that my son was born on Halloween, so we had costume birthday parties. When he was four he dressed as a lego block.
I’m not creative enough to come up with the concept of the costume on my own, but I don’t recall who deserves the credit.
It takes six tubs of butter to make a lego block, so being the doting parents that we are, we purchased 6 tubs and scooped out all the butter and put it into another bowl and stored it in the refrigerator for later consumption. We don’t eat a whole lot of butter, so eventually, we had to throw all of it out. Yes, I know, a waste of perfectly good butter when there are starving kids in the world. I never said we were perfect parents.

But butter-milk biscuits baked with butter beats butterless biscuits any day.
Moral of my story–don’t waste butter. There is someone in the world who’ll eat it. More Butter to you, J-Hope.
Disclaimer: I enjoyed the new video. Some Christians feel the use of the phrase OMG is breaking one of the ten commandments. I am one of them, so as I sing along, I’ll just sing something different, like Oh My Goodness cause that’s what my Grandmother said. If Grandma said it, then it’s okay with me. (It’s okay to take my own goodness in vain, because I know that my own goodness is nothing when compared to the perfection of Jesus). Hey, I’m not judging the boys, I’m just saying what makes me comfortable.
Another Breakfast referenced song oldie-but-goodie just recently posted to Youtube by the Newsboys. Fun Fun Fun.
When the toast has burned . . .
And since I’m CRAZY, here’s another song by the Newsboys:

I’m a people watcher. I love to sit back and watch people do things. Anything.
I love to read, but can’t do it when I’m in an airport, because there are too many people to watch.
BTS has been a great group of guys to watch. They may get offended if I said they remind me of a church youth group. But my church youth group loves to play games with each other, laugh, sing, act goofy, so yeah, church youth group(I guess without the faith message).
Coldplay’s 2005 song Fix You has gained recent popularity. It was written as a source of comfort, so I can see why BTS chose to sing it. It was reported to be on BTS members Jimin’s and Jin’s playlists. I’m sure they had a lot of influence in getting to cover this song.
As a people watcher, Jimin is fascinating. (One day I’ll write a post about his love language). He seems to be a kind, caring person, the type of person who would want to fix people. I remember an instance in a V-live where he takes the time to look up a remedy for a particular ailment that one of the viewers was experiencing. He seemed so sincere and sweet in his search.
I wasn’t listening to pop music when Fix You originally came out (truthfully, I’m still not listening to pop music, but BTS is different).
The boys do a splendid job with amazing vocals.
While the song is beautiful, and I don’t doubt it does make people feel better, sometimes we think we can fix people. We try to tell them what is right and wrong, what to eat or drink, what to say or do, and yet, fixing people is the hardest job, because we’re dealing with someone else’s free will. A person has to want to be fixed.
We see how certain things are causing harm and we can preach until we’re “blue in the face”, but nothing seems to get through. All our attempts at fixing are coming up void.
That’s when we take it out of our hands, ’cause we don’t have that power. We put it into the hands of someone with the power. Someone who loves more than anyone here on earth can love. Someone who can heal. Someone who knows the pain. Someone who can fix it.
Maybe there is someone you want to fix. Give it over. Help is on the way.
There is no pain like the pain of losing a child. TobyMac understands that pain.

Effective Prayer
13 Is anyone among you suffering? He should pray. Is anyone cheerful? He should sing praises.
5:13 Korean Living Bible
Philippians 4:5-7 Christian Standard Bible
5 Let your graciousness[a] be known to everyone. The Lord is near. 6 Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
4:5-7 Korean Living Bible
Sounds like a good sentiment.
Jesus said to love your neighbor as yourself.
And we love ourselves, don’t we?
We feed ourselves. Clothe ourselves. We meet our needs, because we are selfish.
But something beautiful happens when we transcend the selfish love and move on to love others as much as we love ourselves.
We make sure that the hurting (physically and emotionally) are comforted.
We make sure that children are protected from harm.
We make sure that the hungry are fed.
But unfortunately, there are those who love themselves more than others.
The pedophile who puts his wants above the tender heart of a child.
The woman who shouts her abortion.
The person who steals from the vulnerable.
The pimp who uses women with mental illnesses or emotional pains for his/her own financial gain.
The drug pusher who doesn’t care about the individuals whose lives will be forever ruined by an addictive substance.
I could go on and on.
Maybe instead of loving ourselves so much, we should strive to live like the greatest example of love. The sacrificial kind.
Philippians 2:3-11Christian Standard Bible
3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. 4 Everyone should look not to his own interests, but rather to the interests of others.
5 Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus,
6 who, existing in the form of God,
did not consider equality with God
as something to be exploited.[a]
7 Instead he emptied himself
by assuming the form of a servant,
taking on the likeness of humanity.
And when he had come as a man,
8 he humbled himself by becoming obedient
to the point of death—
even to death on a cross.
9 For this reason God highly exalted him
and gave him the name
that is above every name,
10 so that at the name of Jesus
every knee will bow—
in heaven and on earth
and under the earth—
11 and every tongue will confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
2:3-11 Korean Living Bible
Matthew 22:36-40 Christian Standard Version
36 “Teacher, which command in the law is the greatest?”
37 He said to him, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.[a] 38 This is the greatest and most important[b] command. 39 The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.[c] 40 All the Law and the Prophets depend[d] on these two commands.”
22:36-40 Korean Living Bible
1 John 4:7-21 Christian Standard Bible
7 Dear friends, let us love one another, because love is from God, and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 God’s love was revealed among us[a] in this way: God sent his one and only Son into the world so that we might live through him. 10 Love consists in this: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice[b] for our sins. 11 Dear friends, if God loved us in this way, we also must love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God. If we love one another, God remains in[c] us and his love is made complete in us. 13 This is how we know that we remain in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. 14 And we have seen and we testify that the Father has sent his Son as the world’s Savior. 15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God—God remains in him and he in God. 16 And we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us.
God is love, and the one who remains in love remains in God, and God remains in him. 17 In this, love is made complete with us so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment, because as he is, so also are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love; instead, perfect love drives out fear, because fear involves punishment.[d] So the one who fears is not complete in love. 19 We love[e] because he first loved us. 20 If anyone says, “I love God,” and yet hates his brother or sister, he is a liar. For the person who does not love his brother or sister whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.[f] 21 And we have this command from him: The one who loves God must also love his brother and sister.
4:7-21 Korean Living Bible

Home is my happy place.
I told one of my bosses that he needed to make sure there were tissues on my desk when I return to the physical office, ’cause I’m gonna cry.
I love being at home.
I’m never bored there.
It’s nothing fancy. Yet I’m comfortable.
Years ago I started praying, not to get wealthy, but to have enough.
Enough to pay the bills. To eat. To go on a nice beach vacation once a year. .
But other than that, I don’t need a lot.
Having a family that I love and that loves me back makes me rich.
And God has always provided. Even when my husband’s company moved to a different part of the country, and he had to look for another job.
The Bible reminds me that . . .
19 And my God will supply all your needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4: 19)

BTS has a cute song called Home.
BUT
My Favorite song called HOME is sung by another South Korean band, Levistance. (I’m sorry ARMY, but it’s true)
I’m so thankful I have the Father’s loving arms to run home to. (Read the Prodigal Son Story here or here for the Korean Version)
1 Timothy 6:6-12 Christian Standard Bible
6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and[a] we can take nothing out. 8 If we have food and clothing,[b] we will be content with these. 9 But those who want to be rich fall into temptation, a trap, and many foolish and harmful desires, which plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root[c] of all kinds of evil, and by craving it, some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
Fight the Good Fight
11 But you, man of God, flee from these things, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of eternal life to which you were called and about which you have made a good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
6:6-12Korean Living Bible

The pandemic brought music back into my life.
Years ago I used to attend Winter Jam concerts hosted by New Song.
One particular year, Leeland performed.
I wondered what he was doing and found him singing the cover to a beautiful song called Way Maker by the Nigerian Gospel singer, Sinach. The song is a global success having reached well over 100M views.
Leeland says at the end of his performance,
His name is above Depression
His name is above lonliness
His name is above disease
His name is above Cancer
His name is above everything.
The Newsboys song “He Reigns” points out the beauty of Christians from around the world singing to the One True God.
They sing,
The song of Asian Believers filled with God’s Holy fire.
It’s every tribe
Every tongue
Every nation
A love song born of a grateful choir.
In Africa
In America
In South Korea

BTS’s new album and single came out November 20th.
I told my niece that BTS put out the new song just for her birthday.

The Korean Boy Band has been known to sing songs that bring solace to the hurting, like their song, Spring Day, and this song is no different.
We could all use a little comfort in this Pandemic and in other situations life brings at us.
At 6AM the day the song was released a friend texted saying she needed prayers, because the fire department had scheduled to burn down the remaining structure after a devastating fire had destroyed her home of many years.
She watched as her home turn to ashes.
Her children spent their whole lives there.
They lost cherished and sentimental items.
All that remained were her memories.
But as the song says, LIFE GOES ON. Please turn on Closed Captions for the English Subtitles.
My friend sent the following video of the scheduled burn.
BUT it is not about the burning house, but about the conversation between her oldest and youngest sons.
Before the the video begins, her oldest son had said how blessed they were that the fire started at the shed and not inside the house where they were. Listen carefully.
I love her youngest son’s responses.

The BTS song asks, Is there way out?

Daniel 3:24-26New Century Version
24 Then King Nebuchadnezzar was so surprised that he jumped to his feet. He asked the men who advised him, “Didn’t we tie up only three men and throw them into the fire?”
They answered, “Yes, O king.”
25 The king said, “Look! I see four men walking around in the fire. They are not tied up, and they are not burned. The fourth man looks like a son of the gods.”
26 Then Nebuchadnezzar went to the opening of the blazing furnace and shouted, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, come out! Servants of the Most High God, come here!”
So Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came out of the fire.
